Ginger chicken is great in taste particularly suitable for cold climate or cold months. Ginger chicken is prepared mostly in November till February in India. Also known as murgh adraki

Ingredients for Ginger Chicken

  • Chicken (Boneless, cut into bite size pieces) - 450 gm
  • Red chili powder - 2 tablespoon
  • Meat masala (MDH or Kitchen king or any other) - 1 tablespoon
  • Dhaniya (Coriander) powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Jeera Powder (Cumin) - 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger (minced) - 2" (inches)
  • Ginger-Garlic paste - 1 to 1.5 tablespoon
  • Yogurt (dahi) - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion (Very Finely Chopped) - 2 medium size
  • Oil - 3-4 tbsp
  • Green Chili (chopped) - 2
  • Salt to taste
  • cilantro (Dhaniya patta) - For garnish
  • Method for Ginger Chicken
  • Rub chicken with ginger-garlic paste so that its coated with ginger
  • Add red chili powder (1 teaspoon) and yogurt (dahi) and mix well, keep refrigerated for 30 minutes (refrigeration is optional)
    1. Heat the oil in a kadai
    2. Add green chili and minced ginger. Stir fry for 3-4 minutes on medium heat. Add onions and fry for 3-4 minutes on medium heat.
    3. Add chicken, coriander powder, jeera powder and saute for 30 seconds, add little water. Cover kadai and keep the ginger chicken curry on low-medium heat for 2-3 minutes
    4. Add salt and some water and put meat masala and fry on high heat for 10 minutes, keep adding small amount of water in case the chicken curry sticks at the bottom of kadai.
    5. Now keep the flame on low heat and cook till chicken is tender
    6. Serve Ginger Chicken hot with Fried Rice
